Creativly Preparing

Girls night making masks for Angie's Masquerade themed
birthday the next week. It was so fun getting our craft on.
All the masks were custom made from plaster formed on
our faces. Meeting cute new gals, paint, glitter, feathers,
ribbons. Hot glue, as always, amazing. I couldnt stop at one,
I made three.

Greece

Went to Greek Fest with my lovely ladies, Kelly and Angie,
and we had a lovely time. We started the day with homemade
german pancakes at Angie's (thanks girl, they were amazing!)
then we continued to SLC where we were enchanted by the
charm and smells of the cute farmers market we walked
through to get to the festival. Gorgeous produce, stunning
floral bouquets, baskets, puppy pugs, fun music. Wonderful.

We took a tour of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral
downtown, it was beautiful. I loved the blue and the stained
glass.

By the time that we got to the festival it was so hot that we
didnt feel like feasting on all the famous dishes we had heard
so much about, so we settled on tasting the various pastries.
I loved the custard-like cake, the almond tart, and the
Baklava. We also enjoyed the traditional dancing. Good times.

Russia

I made Borscht as a part of my presentation on Russia
that I gave for our Culture Club Eastern European Day.
It took longer to make than expected,
Tasted better with sour cream than expected,
took much longer for Reece and I to finish than expected,
but a fun experience nonetheless.

Bountiful Tri

Reece and I completed our first triathlon together
on Labor Day morning. It was one of those sprints
where the swimming was only 400 meters instead of
the regular 800. But the rest of the distances were the
same: Bike 12 miles, running 5K (about 3 miles).
My sweet dad woke up bright and
early to come support us and take pictures. Thanks
so much Pops!
All went well except.... THE EYES, THE EYES!
Both Reece and I lost our goggles when we jumped
in the pool and didnt have time to find them before
the next swimmer was jumping on top of us.
So we both swam the entire distance goggle-less
and me having contacts, that I didnt want to loose,
finally resulted to swimming the backstroke the last
150 meters. Then I forgot my sunglasses in transitioning
to the bike so my eyes went from too wet to too dry
in a mater of seconds. BUT, I had dicided before the race
to not let frustration enter my mind, not even one little bit,
so I didnt let it. I kept a smile on my face the whole time,
even though some times it was really forced. But surprisingly
I found myself giddy and happy. Endorphins? very likely,
but I truly had a good time.

Reece did the running in bare feet (crazy goose) he said
it was worth all the blisters in that his knees felt GREAT!
My solution to knee pain was a knee brace, which worked
pretty great too....

I cant tell you how proud I am of my little ipod shuffle,
it did a great job at choosing the tunes I needed at each
moment, especially those faster and perkier songs that
helped keep my pace up towards the end of the running.
But Im also very proud of my rockstar husband that
again did wonderfully, and Im so so happy to see my
body perform beautifully what I have been working hard
to train it to do.

So now if we can just keep it up for the
big official tri that we have ourselves signed up for in St.
George.

4ever

I love my sweet husband.
Got this for our triathlon training
(which is going pretty well)
love how he personalized it.
love it.

(it says "Reece + Beth 4 Ever!")

Photograms

The first lecture and assignment for my
photo 1 classes are centered around the
chemistry of the light sensitive
materials used in photography and how
exactly they react to light.
The assignment is to create a photogram.
A photographic print created with no
camera, just objects opaque and translucent
placed on photo paper and exposed.
Here were the photograms I created
in my demonstrations.
These are pretty simplistic, but Im excited
to see what my students come up with,
a few got really excited about the potential of
this art form.
