Holi 2010

We attended Holi Festival of Colors again this year. We Planned

a little better so we could arrive earlier, have a picnic with ethnic

dishes from India Palace, and be able to participate in more of the

activities. Since this event has gotten so popular the Krishna Temple

decided to have two throwings of the color, one in the morning and

one in the afternoon. We arrived towards the end of the throwing of the

morning session. It was cool to see the cloud of color from a greater

distance. We were able to get great parking (in the llama fields) so

we were able to relax, eat, play with llamas, enjoy the music &

dancing, and then get a good position for photographing the rest of

the event.

There were always people throwing color, but there was a

huge countdown at the end where everyone threw colors at once.

The colored chalk is mixed with incense so it smelled like roses, it

is fine and very soft.

They make this witch that they burn to commence the throwing

of the colors. It goes along with the legend of the origin of the

festival.

Then they do the count down and throw the colors.

Reece and I decided to photograph the amphitheater

from about 50-100 ft away. It was an amazing view.

We saved some colors to smear on top of the dust of the

throwing so our colors weren't mixed and dull but bright and

beautiful.
