have noticed one thing in particular about
how people choose their subjects....it all
comes down to if they are hunters or
composers. Hunters like to find their subjects
and like to respond to the circumstances
around the shot and only use the existing light.
Photo journalists and landscape photographers
are usually hunters. Then there are the composers,
they need to have total control...over lighting,
positioning, location, everything. Fashion,
portrait, and table top photographers are
composers. I feel like the later is the
photographer that describes me the best.
Although Im continuing to try to break out of
that preference. It is always interesting to see who
loves and who hates this assignment as it is either
catering to those who are hunters or pushing those
who are composers. They were required to shoot
for a large depth of field (f/22) and to shoot with
side lighting to eventuate texture. When the sun is
your light source to get side lighting you must shoot
when the sunlight comes from the side, dawn and dusk.
My students came up with quite a variety of scenes
which were very fun to see.
